Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act Is Unconstitutional

On February 26, 2009, CEO joined this amicus brief filed with the Supreme Court in Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District Number One v. Holder. In it, CEO urges the Court to strike down Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act as unconstitutional, since it is not congruent and proportional to Congress’s authority to enforce voting rights. CEO president Roger Clegg and chairman Linda Chavez had earlier warned Congress not to pass this unconstitutional legislation.
