ONE WOMAN’S JOURNEY – PERSONAL, PROFESSIONAL, POLITICAL PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 November 2009
rosaliebook.jpgRosalie Pedalino Porter advises schools and the U.S. Congress on education policy. She has lived and lectured in the Middle East, Far East and Europe. Half personal memoir, half details of her public life, American Immigrant chronicles three decades of efforts to improve the education of immigrant children. Her story is not simply about “growing up immigrant,” but an account of American opportunity, rich with humor, joy, and enduring love.

Advance praise for American Immigrant:
“Rosalie Porter is a national treasure – a bilingual teacher who had the guts to take on the politically-correct establishment, and who taught us all a lesson on the importance of learning English.”

John Miller, National Review
Author, The Unmaking of Americans

“American Immigrant: My Life in Three Languages is the compelling story of a striver who rose from poverty through a hard-won education and a hilarious assortment of jobs. I was there with Rosalie, a loyal colleague and a true American, for some of the struggles.”

Ricardo K. Munro,
California Educator

“Generations of immigrants bring their rich cultures to America. Rosalie Porter is one of those millions. Read American Immigrant to understand why we value those who come here to improve their lives and ours.”

Senator Stan Rosenberg, President Pro Tempore,
Massachusetts State Senate

“Porter’s story is quintessentially American: the young girl comes to the United States, studies hard, exceeds everyone’s expectations, then devotes her life to helping those who came after her. Rosalie’s engaging prose makes wonderful reading. Her contribution to her adopted country has immeasurably enriched us.”

Linda Chavez, Chairman

Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act Is Unconstitutional

On February 26, 2009, CEO joined this amicus brief filed with the Supreme Court in Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District Number One v. Holder. In it, CEO urges the Court to strike down Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act as unconstitutional, since it is not congruent and proportional to Congress’s authority to enforce voting rights. CEO president Roger Clegg and chairman Linda Chavez had earlier warned Congress not to pass this unconstitutional legislation.
